Man City suffer 'blow' in pursuit of Arsenal's Bukayo Saka and more transfer rumours

Manchester City appear to have suffered a setback in their pursuit of Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka, after reports emerged that the England international is set to hold talks to extend his contract with the North London club.

According to Caught Offside, Saka is due to take part in talks with the league leaders in the 'next weeks and months', with Arsenal adamant that they want to extend the 21-year-old's contract instead of cashing-in on their talisman amid the interest generated around the winger. The Gunners star shone for England during their World Cup campaign, continuing his fine form that has seen him register four goals and six assists in the Premier League this season.

City have reportedly been long-term admirers of Saka, with Pep Guardiola looking to bolster his attacking options ahead of the January transfer window. Despite Mikel Arteta's connections with the club, it is unlikely that the Spaniard will allow the Blues to sign his key player as easily as City sanctioned the departures of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko to the Emirates.

Elsewhere, GiveMeSport have better news for City fans as they claim that Tottenham have been priced out of a move to sign Josko Gvardiol.

Talking to Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor, they report that the North London club will not be able to match the financial power of City should a bidding war ensue for Gvardiol. Guardiola's side are already believed to have submitted an offer in the region of £85million for the 20-year-old centre-back, with rivals Manchester United also thought to have offered fees in the region of £77-82m.

Gvardiol played every game for Croatia during their run to the World Cup semi-finals and now it seems that although the defender has attracted the interest of numerous Premier League clubs, City have one less rival to compete with for his signature.
