Manchester City attacker Cole Palmer scored his third goal for England’s Under-21s, firing home the final strike in their 3-1 friendly win over Germany at Bramall Lane on Tuesday evening.
The 20-year-old broke the defensive line deep into stoppage time at the end of the game to fire past Noah Atubolu to seal the win for the hosts. Palmer enjoyed 20 minutes on his sixth appearance for the age group.
Fellow City academy graduate Taylor Harwood-Bellis, currently on loan at Burnley, started the game before being replaced by Blues colleague Luke Mbete on 83 minutes. Tommy Doyle and James McAtee, both on loan at Sheffield United, also came on as substitutes a minute before Palmer entered the pitch.

Folarin Balogun and Conor Gallagher netted England’s first two goals of the night either side of half-time after ex- City youth player Lukas Nmecha had put the Germans ahead on 35 minutes.
It was the first time Palmer had started on the bench for the Young Lions after starting his previous five, including in Thursday’s 2-0 friendly win over Italy. The playmaker has played five times for City’s senior side this season.
He is yet to start a match but played against Sevilla in their 4-0 Champions League victory earlier this month before most recently featuring against Wolves for 13 minutes in the Premier League.
Palmer’s 2021/22 campaign was stunted by a foot injury that kept him out for four months between January and April. He had enjoyed three Champions League outings and four Premier League appearances but failed to play in either after recovering from his problem.
However, Pep Guardiola sees him part of his plans again this campaign, refraining from sending him out on loan. He registered three first-team goals last season but is yet to hit the mark in his cameo appearances this time around.
