Man City star Riyad Mahrez hilariously calls out Elon Musk over Twitter punishment

Riyad Mahrez has made an appeal on social media platform Twitter to get his verified blue tick back.

With a place in the Champions League final at stake this week as Manchester City take on Real Madrid in the second leg of their semi-final tie, Mahrez seems to have been distracted by his getting his verified tick back. The 31-year-old boasts a following of over 3.2m on Twitter, but appears to have lost his tick for some reason.

On a mission to change that, the City winger took to Twitter to send Elon Musk a message, simply asking : "Bro, Elon Musk give me my blue tick back," followed by laughing emojis. Musk recently purchased Twitter after the board agreed to a £34.5bn takeover, as he described the social media had "tremendous potential," envisaging a number of changes such as an edit button for tweets.

Since then, Musk has been inundated with messages from users' requests to improve their own social media experience. The Tesla CEO is yet to respond to the 31-year-old's request however.

But many people have interacted with the tweet, with one joking: "How did you get unverified?", before another added: "Emotional damage!" While a third continued: "Imagine your winger not having a blue tick."

Mahrez who is currently in his third season at the Etihad, tops City's scoring charts with 23 goals in all competitions so far this season and has eight more than second-placed Kevin De Bruyne. He became City's club record signing in July 2018 for £60million from Leicester City.

Pep Guardiola's side are on course to claim the Premier League title for a second consecutive year, but face fierce competition from Liverpool who are only one point adrift.

But their focus will be turned to the Champions League semi-final tie against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu on Wednesday, with the Citizens holding a 4-3 advantage over Carlo Ancelotti's men. The winger has made just under 190 appearances across all seasons in all competitions, contributing to 62 goals.
