Julian Alvarez has praised Liverpool after tasting defeat in his first competitive match for Manchester City was a 3-1 defeat against the Reds in the Community Shield on Saturday. The Argentine came off the bench to equalise for City.
Trent Alexander-Arnold opened the scoring in the first half before Alvarez equalised halfway through the second period. Mohamed Salah converted a penalty to hand Liverpool back the lead and then Darwin Nunez secured the win for the Reds.
With the new Premier League season set to get underway this weekend, Liverpool and City are set to battle it out once again for the title.

Alvarez said to mancity.com after the loss on Saturday: "Liverpool have shown in the last few years how good they are. They’re a great team with great players, so is Manchester City. So it was a good test to start the season."
The signing of the 22-year-old had gone under the radar with all focus on City's capture of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund although it was Alvarez who made more of an impact than the Norwegian.
The sides will not come to blows until October in the Premier League and then again in April at the Etihad in what could prove to be a pivotal game in the title race.
