Man City's Jack Grealish hits back at critics of his treble partying in radio appearance

Jack Grealish is paying no attention to critics of his partying after Manchester City's Champions League win, insisting that he wasn't the only one enjoying the treble success.

Grealish and his City teammates enjoyed a weekend of parties in Istanbul, Ibiza and Manchester after winning the Champions League to complete a historic treble, before most players joined up with their international teams over the last week.

After admitting on stage at City's trophy parade that he had barely slept in the 48 hours since winning the Champions League, Grealish gained headlines for being the centre of City's parties, and he was on the bench for England's Euro 2024 qualifier at Malta last week along with his four club teammates.

The winger has now defended his partying, insisting he had the best week of his life, and that any criticism of his antics doesn't bother him at all.

"I probably had one of the most enjoyable seasons of my life," he told talkSPORT. "The second half of the season, I played a big part in something that will go down in Man City history.

“Last weekend was the best weekend I’ve ever had. I’m still trying to come to terms with it. I’ve been on such a high the last week. I feel good. I trained on Wednesday and Thursday, and felt alright. Obviously, Saturday and Sunday, I felt good.”

Asked whether the criticism affected him, Grealish insisted that he was not the only player enjoying the celebrations, and defended his right to enjoy making history.

“Not really," he said. “I’d done something that comes around once in a lifetime. The last time it was done… I don’t know when Man United did it, but it hasn’t been done for ages.

“So why not celebrate like that? Everyone was with me. I wasn’t on my own, going out with my friends. I was with the whole team. We enjoyed ourselves on the Saturday, Sunday, Monday. I had the best weekend of my life. I’d just won the Champions League and I was so emotional after it.

“I was probably on the biggest emotional high I’ve ever been on. The manager [Gareth Southgate] didn’t tell me, but I knew I wouldn’t play on the Friday. I came on [vs North Macedonia on Monday] and I felt good. Whatever you do in life, there will always be people in the background criticising you. It’s part and parcel of life.

“My full priority is with England. That’s why I was in camp on Tuesday night. Obviously I had a good weekend, it was the best weekend of my life.”

Grealish also took to Instagram to reflect on his incredible season, ending his post by saying: "Time to enjoy my summer with my family and friends... See you all in four weeks for pre season."
