Man City’s Gareth Taylor sends message ahead of Leicester City fixture

Since being named favourites for relegation last year, Leicester City have worked tirelessly to improve their performances. They face Man City fresh from a 3-0 win over Blackburn Rovers in the Continental Cup, a boost that City manager Gareth Taylor thinks will make them difficult opponents.

He said: “We need to be ready for a tough game, there’s no doubt but it’s about focusing on what we do, making sure that we get good continuity and good symmetry between the players in certain positions on the pitch. We always feel like we can score goals and we are looking forward to the challenge on Sunday.”

City are looking to bounce back from a 2-0 loss to Chelsea before the international break. Although arguably the better side on the day, City failed to take their chances in front of goal.

Despite the score-line, Taylor believed there were positive takeaways, he said: “I think that Chelsea hadn’t conceded 12 shots on goal in the first half of a game since 2013 or something like that. At the end of the day, we didn’t score but there were positives around it, for sure.

“There are some little things that we need to iron out and get better at and I think that’s only natural when you have a big intake of players coming in that need a bit more familiarity and a bit more consistency of working with each other. The international breaks don’t help because you work with them for a little bit and then they go away again.

“They’re good players, we’ve got a real good squad at the moment. It needs a little bit of time and given that time and support, we will see some really good things from this team.”

City’s WSL fixture against Leicester City kicks off at 2pm on Sunday.
