Erling Haaland has been ruled out of Norway's qualifier against Scotland with an ankle injury.
The Manchester City striker came on at half-time in his country's friendly win over the Faroe Islands on Thursday night and took a blow to his ankle in the closing stages, but was able to finish the match.
Norway team doctor Ola Sand stated after the match that the issue was a recurrence of the ankle problem that forced Haaland off at half-time in City's victory over Bournemouth earlier this month, and revealed that he had been in contact with the club's medical staff over the situation.
It has now been confirmed that Haaland will not be involved when Norway travel to face Scotland on Sunday in their final Euro 2024 qualifier.
"The injury is not serious, but he is in so much pain and somewhat restricted function that the Scotland game unfortunately comes a little too early," Sand said.
Haaland faces a race to return to fitness when club football resumes next weekend, with City hosting Liverpool in a crucial clash in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off straight after the international break.
It is the latest injury issue facing Pep Guardiola ahead of Liverpool's visit, after Ederson pulled out of the Brazil squad and Rodri missed Spain's match against Cyprus after feeling "discomfort".
There are also doubts over the fitness of Matheus Nunes and Nathan Ake, while John Stones, Kevin De Bruyne and Mateo Kovacic all remain unavailable.
After taking on Liverpool, in a match between the top two sides in the Premier League, City play Leipzig in the Champions League and then face Tottenham and Aston Villa in the space of three days.
