Stefan Ortega
A strangely jittery performance. One mistake with his feet seemed to unsettle him and got away with a couple of minor mistakes. 6
Rico Lewis
A classic City right-back performance. Transitioned more aggressively between right-back and central midfielder than Kyle Walker does and looked comfortable. 7
Jadel Katongo
Read the game really well at times and that attribute created the second goal, stepping in to intercept a pass and firing a first-time ball to the feet of De Bruyne. 7

Shea Charles
A solid defensive performance and looked comfortable in possession, as we've come to expect from City's centre-backs. 7
Sergio Gomez
Girona got some joy down his flank in the second half and the combination with Rogers in the first half didn't always look particularly natural. 6
Ilkay Gundogan
Only returned to training on Thursday so did well to last as long as he did. A tough battleground in midfield and this would have blown the cobwebs away. 6
Kevin De Bruyne
Looked like he was keen to prove a point. Sharp to win possession for his first goal and clever movement and cross to tee up Haaland. Very bright performance. 8
Cole Palmer
Played a deeper role, often appearing alongside Gundogan, and enjoyed the time he had on the ball. Carried possession forward well at times. 7
Morgan Rogers
Didn't really take his opportunity. Some decent link-up play with Palmer at times but struggled to really influence the game in his 50 minutes on the pitch. 6
Riyad Mahrez
Missed an excellent second-half chance and while there were some neat touches he wasn't as heavily involved as he would have wanted. 6
Erling Haaland
Took his goal well but aside from that this was a scrappy and disjointed display. He was carrying an injury before the World Cup break and would have needed the minutes. 6
Substitutes
Carlos Borges
Only really had one chance to run at the Girona defence and saw his shot blocked. 6
Oscar Bobb
Replaced Haaland but by now City's attacks were sporadic and he had little chance to impress. 6
Alexander Robertson
Came on for Gundogan for the final 12 minutes and snapped into a couple of tackles tenaciously. 7
Rowan McDonald
Little time to make an impression. 6
