Man City player ratings vs Chelsea as John Stones and Riyad Mahrez excellent

Ederson

Didn't have a lot to do. Beaten by an effort that hit the post and one sharp save with his feet, but fairly comfortable aside from that. 7

Kyle Walker

Was often in space to receive the ball but didn't find it easy defensively, especially when Chukwuemeka came on. 6

John Stones

Played like a sweeper in the first half and produced a last-ditch tackle on Pulisic that was Beckenbauer-esque. Moved to the right when Akanji came on, but excellent throughout. 8

Nathan Ake

Struggled a little in the first half as Aubameyang and Ziyech overloaded on him at times, but better after the break and was dominant aerially once again. 7

Joao Cancelo

Link-up with Walker down City's right looked strangely out of sync and one heavy pass put Chelsea into a good attacking position. Subbed at half-time. 5

Rodri

Had to cover a lot of ground in the first half and was caught out a couple of times. Much better after half-time. 7

Ilkay Gundogan

One excellent pass into Haaland as he played in a more advanced role first-half. Helped City get a stranglehold early in the second half. 7

Kevin De Bruyne

A bit of Jekyll and Hyde once again. Started well, but then a poor cross to waste a break, one pass that put his team in trouble and a heavy touch when in a good position late in the first half. 6

Bernardo Silva

Dogged and determined in central midfield in the first half, with one key block on Chukwuemeka. Moved out wide when Lewis came on. 6

Phil Foden

First start since November 12 and struggled to get into the game. City barely attacked down the left in the first half and he was a peripheral influence. 5

Erling Haaland

Didn't see much of his aggression from Saturday. Missed an excellent first-half chance and was on the end of an earful from Guardiola for his tardiness in possession once City head the lead. 6

Substitutes

Manuel Akanji

Slotted into the central position in defence after he came on and proved a calm presence. 7

Rico Lewis

Took over in central midfield as Bernardo moved wide, which says it all. Dropped in at right-back at times as well. What a talent he is. 8

Riyad Mahrez

A simple finish for his goal but started the move with a purposeful run. 8

Jack Grealish

Created the goal with a good low cross and caused Chelsea a few problems with his quick feet. 7

Kalvin Phillips

Little to make an impact. 6
