Man City midfielder joins Championship club on season-long loan

Manchester City youngster Lewis Fiorini has joined Blackpool on a season-long loan deal.

The 20-year-old, who has been on City's books for more than a decade, spent last season on loan at League One outfit Lincoln City. He made a telling impression while on the books of the Imps, racking up 44 appearances in all competitions.

He chipped in with six goals and grabbed five assists and will now be looking to test himself at a higher level in the Championship with Blackpool, who have made Fiorini their first signing of the summer.

"I'm buzzing to be here and looking forward to the season ahead," Fiorini told Blackpool's club website. "I had options to go elsewhere, but coming to Blackpool was exactly what I wanted to do, especially having worked with the gaffer before.

"I pride myself on providing the team with goals and assists, and hopefully I can do that at the next step-up in the Championship. I can't wait to get started."

Following the shock departure of former boss Neil Critchley, Blackpool appointed Michael Appleton as their new manager for a second time exactly a month ago. Appleton spent almost three years in charge at Lincoln and left the club at the end of last season.

Appleton said: "Lewis is a very talented player and is someone who will bring goals and assists to the team. He's one of those players that is only going to get better and better, and with his experiences in Dutch football and in League One, he's already proved himself at a good level.

"I feel really fortunate to work with him again, and it's great we've been able to bring him here to play in the Championship at Blackpool Football Club."
