Man City midfielder Iker Pozo declares trophy ambition after sealing loan move

Manchester City academy midfielder Iker Pozo has finally had his January loan move away from the club confirmed as he was announced as a new HNK Rijeka player.

Midfielder Pozo, 21, has been at City for ten years but has never featured for the first team in a competitive game. He has been used in some pre-season squads including the 2018 tour of the USA and last summer's Euro 2020-interrupted friendlies in Manchester.

The Spaniard has featured almost 100 times for City at academy level and spent time at FC Eindhoven last season where he made 29 appearances. Now, after just three under-23 appearances so far this season, and the occasional first-team training session, Pozo is heading out on loan again to Croatia.

HNK Rijeka have secured Pozo's loan signing in a deal that was expected before the January transfer deadline, with the Croatian side having an option to make the move permanent.

And Pozo says the time was right to make a step forward in his career with regular playing time.

"Impressions are very good, I like everything," he told Rijeka's website.

"I wanted to try myself in a new environment. Last season I was in the second division in Holland but I wanted to try a challenge and a step up for me. Hopefully I can do well for this club.

"[At City] you play with very good players around you, you play very good football, very tactical, technical. The facilities are incredible, the best in the world. I came to give my maximum and I hope we will win a lot of trophies."

Even if Pozo has kicked his final ball in a City shirt, he still has an affinity with the club, and he named a Blues great as his favourite ever player - David Silva.
