Man City made request to Sky Sports over Ilkay Gundogan interview amid contract uncertainty

Manchester City 'made it clear' that Sky Sports were not to ask Ilkay Gundogan questions over his future during Sunday's trophy parade, as uncertainty over his time at the Etihad intensifies.

Club captain Gundogan led the celebrations as City were handed their third straight Premier League title on Sunday, following a comfortable 1-0 win against Chelsea. The Blues were confirmed as champions 24 hours before kicking off, with Arsenal's defeat at Nottingham Forest on Saturday leaving them four points short with one game left to play.

The German international has led his City side throughout the season, particularly in recent weeks where e chipped in with braces against both Leeds United and Everton. But his continued influence has only highlighted the issue of his future beyond the summer.

RATINGS: Foden and Alvarez good in Chelsea win

Gundogan's contract at the Etihad is set to expire this summer, with several reports linking the 32-year-old with a move to Barcelona. City are thought to have tabled a two-year offer in recent weeks, but the outcome of negotiations remains unclear and Sky Sports presenter Dave Jones told viewers that they were warned against asking questions on the topic on Sunday.

After his interview with Gundogan, Jones explained: "Ilkay Gundogan, who as we heard his future is in question and Manchester City have made it clear to us that today is not a day to be asking questions about the future, it’s about the here and now.

"Manchester City - title winners for the third successive season and Ilkay Gundogan the man lifting the trophy for the first time, you could tell how proud he was of that. As Roy [Keane] said, a special player, and it would certainly leave a hole in this Man City team were he to leave."
