Man City loanee Josh Wilson-Esbrand opens up on new challenge at Coventry City

Manchester City loanee Josh Wilson-Esbrand has explained that he wants to improve both physically and mentally while on loan at Coventry City.

The full-back made an impression for the Blues during pre-season but struggled for minutes as Rico Lewis burst into the first team picture. In January, City agreed a loan move for Wilson-Esbrand, joining Coventry who are 15th in the Championship.

On Saturday, the Englishman made his debut for his loan club against Norwich City. Mark Robins' side lost 4-2 but Wilson-Esbrand spoke to Coventry's official website to discuss his switch.

"It is going to be good for me to get minutes here and in the Championship," the 20-year-old explained. "It is underestimated by many people but I know it is a very hard league. It will be great to constantly be playing men’s football week-in week-out and getting used to the competitive nature of the league.

"Not just on the pitch, it will do me good physically and mentally."

Despite joining on January 10, Wilson-Esbrand only made his first appearance this weekend because of a battle with injury.

He added: "It was good to get some minutes in the legs. I have just come back from some minor niggles and injuries this last week, so it is good to get some running in the legs and good to see the stadium and fans.

"The atmosphere is amazing. The stadium is not full of course, but even the fans that are there are great.

"You would not think the stadium is not full. It is very loud, and they get behind the players well. I cannot wait to get back out there."

Wilson-Esbrand will have an opportunity to do just that next Saturday when the Sky Blues host Huddersfield Town in the Championship.
