Man City legend Sergio Aguero tries his luck at career change that could make him even richer

Sergio Aguero has a habit of adapting to what life throws at him.

When Pep Guardiola arrived at Manchester City it suddenly looked as though the legendary striker's days at the Etihad were numbered. Gabriel Jesus had been brought in and initially supplanted Aguero in the team thanks to his superior pressing.

Aguero was already one of the best strikers in Premier League history but when Guardiola asked more of him than just sticking the ball in the back of the net he responded magnificently. The Argentine completely changed his game to become even better and continued to score at a ridiculous rate.

Aguero has faced down every challenge and he's continuing to do so now a few years into his enforced retirement. He left City in the summer of 2021 for Barcelona but only managed to play four times for his new club before his career was cruelly cut short.

It was discovered that Aguero had a heart condition which meant he could no longer play the game and he officially brought his glittering career to a close in December 2021. He won five Premier League titles, an FA Cup and six League Cups and scored a sensational 260 goals for City alone.

Now the 35-year-old is trying his hand at a different game by becoming a professional poker player. Aguero has entered a tournament in Las Vegas and his eyes are on claiming the massive £8million prize pot. He is one of 3,000 participants in the two-week-long World Series of Poker Main Event.

Aguero has won less than £5,000 in his fledging poker career so far but has made a decent start in the tournament, claiming a respectable 85,000 chips on the first day. Christopher Brammer is leading the pack with 386,100.

An insider source told The Sun: “Even the best players make mistakes or get bad cards. Sergio has got to stay in for as long as he can — then who knows."
