Sergio Aguero has recalled the fear he felt after being rushed to hospital when he appeared short of breath while playing for Barcelona.
The Manchester City legend had only just recovered from injury to make his first appearances for Barcelona but was substituted early in their clash with Alaves appearing to struggle with his breathing. Aguero was rushed to hospital, and soon ruled out of action for three months while doctors could assess his condition.
After tests, he announced his retirement from football in December at a tearful press conference at the Nou Camp.
At the time, he said: "I have decided to stop playing football. It's a very difficult moment. The decision that I have made, I have taken it for my health - because of a problem that I had. The medical staff have told me that the best thing would be to stop playing."
Now, the popular striker has reflected on the Alaves incident, saying he was initially calm after being substituted but soon realised his situation was far more serious after arriving at hospital.
Speaking on his Twitch channel, via 20minutos, he said: "When it happened, I thought it was nothing and that it was going to be fine. But when I got to the hospital and they left me in a small room alone with a bunch of monitors around me, I realized something was wrong.
"And after two days in the hospital, I started to get nervous."
Aguero then confirmed he has been fitted with a chip in his chest to monitor his heart rate, with doctors being alerted if it becomes unsafe.
Joking he now looks like Ironman, he said: "I have a chip here [his chest]. At night I throw coloured lights, I'm Ironman!
"I have a chip, crazy, I'm straight. And if it speeds up, it jumps to the doctor."
