Man City 'keen' on move for Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes and more transfer rumours

Manchester City are considering a sensational move for Newcastle United talisman Bruno Guimaraes, according to reports.

Less than one year after his Tyneside switch, the Brazilian is already linked with a move away from St James’ Park. Guimaraes has shone under Eddie Howe since leaving Lyon to join the Saudi-backed revolution in January. A new-found goalscoring ability helped Newcastle survive relegation last season and endeared the 24-year-old to Toon supporters.

90min claim contract talks will begin towards the end of the campaign - with the Magpies hopeful of keeping their prized asset. Real Madrid and Chelsea are two other Champions League clubs that have been linked with Guimaraes in recent weeks.

Given Newcastle’s wealth, they are no longer desperate to cash in on their star players. Guimaraes’ seven goals - and several match-winning displays - make him an integral part of Howe’s side and sporting director Dan Ashworth quashed rumours that they could offload him earlier this month.

Elsewhere, Spanish outlet Fichajes claim Real Madrid are weighing up a move for Julian Alvarez. The Argentine’s game time has mainly been restricted to substitute appearances this season but he did start the 1-0 win against Leicester City in Erling Haaland’s absence.

Three non-EU spots have opened up in the Madrid squad as Eder Militao, Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior all recently obtained dual citizenship. The report cites Los Blancos president Florentino Perez’s attraction to South American players as another reason for their interest.
