Man City have the two top goalscorers in England this season as Shaw emulates Haaland

Manchester City striker Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw is the Women’s Super League top scorer and prior to this game week, was also the player with the most goals and assists combined; 10.

Shaw helped City extend their unbeaten streak to five games after a 2-1 win over Everton last Sunday with her second-half goal making the difference. She has been involved with ten goals in seven games, scoring eight and assisting two, giving her a goal and assist statistic of 1.46 per 90 minutes.

A breakdown of all goals Shaw has been involved with, so far:

18th September vs Aston Villa

4-3 loss away to Aston Villa at Villa Park

Assist # 1: (Laura Coombs) Shaw received the ball with her back to goal, she held up the play and Villa defender. She took a touch inside and then played in Laura Coombs with a right-outside-the-foot pass on the edge of the area. Coombs cut back inside and her shot hit the target.

Goal # 1: Chloe Kelly’s deep corner kick was met by Steph Houghton’s header to put the ball back near the six-yard box. Shaw met the looping ball with a header to sneak inside the right upright post and level the game at 2-2.

16th October vs Leicester City

4-0 win at home at the Academy stadium.

Goal # 2: Lauren Hemp danced through black shirts and gave a looping cross into the path of Shaw. An unchallenged header gave Shaw plenty of space to nod the ball into the top left-hand corner of the Leicester goal.

Goal # 3: A long ball directly to Shaw’s feet on the right flank saw her hold up play and draw the penalty from Sophie Howard. City captain Alex Greenwood took the spot-kick which was saved by keeper Kirstie Levell, who parried the ball directly into the path of Shaw who sent the ball into the right bottom corner.

22nd October vs Tottenham

3-0 win away at Brisbane Road.

Goal # 4: Shaw’s diagonal run across the box to meet Alex Greenwood’s cross redirected the ball low into the bottom corner, leaving Rebecca Spencer scrambling to the left-hand side of her net.

Goal # 5: Spurs midfielder Angharad James turned over possession inside her own half. The ball rolled into the path of Shaw who took a touch to set up a powerful, low right-footed strike beyond Spencer’s fingertips into the bottom right corner.

30th October vs Liverpool

2-1 win at home at the Academy stadium.

Goal # 6: Lauren Hemp wrestled through a number of red shirts and fed the ball to Shaw on the left. Her first-touch instep finish across goal found the back of Liverpool goalkeeper Rachael Laws’s net with ease.

6th November vs Reading

3-0 win away at Madejski stadium.

Goal # 7: After two own goals by Reading’s Emma Mukandi, Shaw found the third with yet another header in the 76th minute. Hemp danced through players and laid off the ball to Mary Fowler who looked up and found Shaw’s head. The ball flew into the roof of the net.

19th November vs Everton

2-1 win away at Walton Hall Park.

Assist # 2: (Julie Blakstad) A direct through ball from left-back Leila Ouahabi sent Shaw one-on-one with the goalkeeper, Emily Ramsey. Her previous finishes would suggest this is an easy goal for her, however, her composed, low, squared ball gave teammate Julie Blakstad an easy tap into the open net.

Goal # 8: Laura Coombs fired a shot from the edge of the box, it struck the right post and bounced to the feet of Shaw close to the Everton goal line. An inside-of-the-foot tap-in gave City the lead and her eighth goal tally in seven games.
