Man City handed Phil Foden boost ahead of Aston Villa clash

Phil Foden looks set to be available for Manchester City this weekend after he was pictured in training on Thursday.

City host Aston Villa at the Etihad on Sunday looking to stay within touching distance of Premier League leaders Arsenal. Pep Guardiola's side blew a chance to close the gap at the top to just two points, having lost against Tottenham just over 24 hours after the Gunners were beaten by Everton.

Foden was an unused substitute in the 4-2 win at home to Spurs in January but didn't feature in the matchday squads for the 3-0 win against Wolves and the FA Cup clash at home to Arsenal.

The 22-year-old was due to return to face Spurs last Sunday, but his absence from the matchday setup was a massive surprise, Guardiola confirming before kick-off that he had been taken ill.

"He was there yesterday in the hotel," the City boss explained. "He felt unwell all night. Really, really bad, and [we decided] he should come back to Manchester."

Foden looks to have recovered from the illness having been pictured in first-team training on Thursday afternoon. City's official Twitter account posted a picture of the England international undertaking some resistance work alongside the caption: 'Matchday loading....'

Foden's last appearance for City came in the 2-1 Manchester derby defeat at Old Trafford on January 14. The Stockport-born academy graduate has struggled to find his feet since returning from the World Cup in Qatar, with just one goal and no assists from seven appearances across all competitions.
