Man City goalkeeper Scott Carson brutally hits back at Champions League medal jibe

Scott Carson brilliantly hit back at criticism on social media claiming he had done nothing to earn his two Champions League medals.

Carson picked up a winners medal on Saturday evening after watching from the bench as Manchester City beat Inter Milan 1-0 in the final in Istanbul. It was his, and the Blues', third major honour of an outstanding season in which they also won the Premier League and FA Cup - an historic treble.

The 37-year-old made his own piece of history on the evening, winning the competition for a second time after an incredible 18-year gap, having been on the bench for Liverpool when they won the competition in 2005 - also in the Turkish capital.

However he came in for some criticism on social media, with one fan accusing him of not deserving either honour.

The fan tweeted: "Scott Carson. Twice champions league winner without playing a minute", alongside a round of applause emoji.

However Carson hit back instantly, pointing back to his appearance for Liverpool in the 2-1 quarter-final win over Juventus back in 2005.

He wrote: "90 minutes quarter-final do your research lad," adding two medal emoji's.

Carson has made just two appearances for City since joining in 2019 - initially on loan from Derby County before making his move permanent in 2021 - featuring in a league match against Newcastle in May of that year and the Champions League last season against Sporting.

At the end of May, City confirmed they had extended Carson's contract for another season, extending his association with the club to five years.

"I’m excited to be staying at City for the 2023/24 season," the third-choice goalkeeper said at the time. "I love working with Pep, Xabi Mancisidor [goalkeeping coach] and our incredible players every day. Hopefully I can help all of our goalkeepers be at their best."
