Gareth Southgate offers John Stones update after injury scare

Gareth Southgate has reassured Manchester City fans about John Stones' injury after he was pulled from the England line-up at the last minute on Saturday.

Just moments before kick off at Wembley, news broke that Stones was injured and would not be starting against Switzerland in the World Cup warm up match. Arsenal's Ben White was picked to replace the centre-back in the starting XI.

Many Blues supporters were quick to jump onto social media to share their rage that the 27-year-old was injured before a game which was little more than a friendly, adding to Pep Guardiola's worries in defence with Ruben Dias having been sidelined recently. However, City will have welcomed Southgate's comments at full time.

Nedum Onuoha makes Man City 'nervous' admission for big Liverpool fixtures

Nedum Onuoha questioned the suggestion that Manchester City are faltering as the Blues look forward to a critical set of fixtures in April across three competitions.

Pep Guardiola's side have dropped five points from their last four Premier League games to allow Liverpool to close the gap at the top of the table to a single point, and have also been patchy in their most recent Champions League and FA Cup matches. The cup draws have handed the Blues a European quarter-final with Atletico either side of their league showdown with Liverpool, followed immediately by a cup semi-final with Jurgen Klopp's side at Wembley.
