Man City give Erling Haaland fitness update vs Brentford plus Kalvin Phillips and Kyle Walker latest

Erling Haaland is feeling 'better' with his foot injury but remains a doubt for Manchester City's final Premier League fixture before the World Cup.

City host Brentford on Saturday before a five-week break for the World Cup, and Haaland is not going to Qatar as Norway failed to qualify. However, Norway play two friendlies next week and Haaland has been selected, with their manager saying he hopes to play the striker at least once.

Haaland has only played once in the last four games, and was an unused substitute against Chelsea on Wednesday as he continues to recover from a ligament issue in his foot. With one further game before the World Cup, Pep Guardiola couldn't guarantee Haaland would play.

"We will see, we are training this afternoon," Guardiola said of Haaland's availability vs Brentford. "He's a little bit better."

Asked if Haaland not going to Qatar is an advantage to City, Guardiola added: "I'd prefer him to go to the World Cup. Unfortunately they didn't qualify. He'll recover hopefully perfectly his injury.

"I think he'll be in Marbella and Norway, and then hopefully come back to train. I'd love, like Riyad [Mahrez] for them all to be going but is what it is."

Guardiola also had updates on England pair Kalvin Phillips and Kyle Walker, both included in Gareth Southgate's World Cup squad. Phillips made his return from injury on Wednesday with 40 minutes off the bench, but Walker is not yet ready to return.

"Kalvin you saw it, he's ready. Kyle not yet," Guardiola confirmed.

"It's a decision from Gareth, support 100 per cent his decisions. I'm not involved. After Saturday, the players belong to national teams, not us. I'm not worried at all."
