Manchester City fans took the chance to troll neighbours Manchester United as they took control of their game against Norwich.
Having seen their great rivals drop points once again earlier in the day as United were held to a 1-1 draw by Southampton, City extended the sizeable gap separating the two sides in the Premier League.
Having taken the lead against Norwich through a superb Raheem Sterling goal in the first half, City wasted no time in doubling their lead after the break through Phil Foden.
The England international managed to squeeze the ball home after originally being denied by goalkeeper Angus Gunn, with Grant Hanley’s attempt to clear off the line proving to be in vain as goal-line technology confirmed the effort had indeed put City 2-0 ahead.
And the travelling fans revelled in their neighbours’ misery as they headed 12 points clear at the top of the table.
The gap to United is even bigger, with Pep Guardiola’s side going 23 points clear as the Reds struggle in their race to reach the top four.
City fans could be heard signing “mind the gap, Man United” after Foden’s goal made it 2-0, rubbing salt into the wounds of their neighbours after another dismal week which saw them also knocked out of the FA Cup by Middlesbrough.
Perhaps more importantly for Guardiola’s side though, they extend their lead over nearest rivals Liverpool ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s side’s clash at Burnley on Sunday, with their grip at the top of the table strengthened further.
