Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling have been warned that their spots in the Manchester City team could be at risk when Julian Alvarez arrives at the club.
City uncharacteristically, yet excitedly, completed a piece of business on transfer deadline day when they announced the signing of South American Football of the Year Alvarez from River Plate.
The Blues have paid £14.1million for a player who burst to life last season with an impressive 24 goals and 15 assists in 46 appearances, earning him interest from across Europe.
City won the race for the 22-year-old prospect on Monday, but kept it a low-key affair as he will be remaining in Argentina until July at least.
The club have conducted deals of this sort in the past as they allowed Jesus to remain at Palmeiras for a further six months after agreeing to sign him so he could gain more first-team experience in South America.
It worked a treat as the Brazilian arrived in Manchester ready to make an instant impact in the first-team even as a teenager and Pep Guardiola may be hoping to play a similar trick with Alvarez.
But when the Argentine does arrive, it could be Jesus and team-mate Sterling who are left looking over their shoulders.
That's according to a selection of City supporters as the MEN surveyed fans asking about the Alvarez transfer.
They were asked 'which of City forwards should be fearful for their future if Alvarez arrives' and though 34.2 per cent of the 1,609 responders believed none of them, a hefty 28.5 per cent opted for Sterling.
The 27-year-old has roared back to his best this season after enduring a lengthy slump in form, with nine goals and three assists to his name so far, but his current contract only has 18-months remaining on it.
Jesus was the second player voted most likely to lose his spot with 21.2 per cent of the vote, followed by Jack Grealish (9.5%), Riyad Mahrez (5.9%) and finally Phil Foden (0.9%).
However, the majority of City fans polled do believe it will take Alvarez some time to adapt to life in England and the Premier League when he finally makes the trip over the Atlantic.
64.2 per cent of fans believe the forward will need to be given patience to acclimatise at City, while 35.8 per cent think he will make an instant impact.
