Man City fans face chaos for Chelsea fixture as Alex Greenwood pens new contract

Strike action to cause travel chaos

A new train strike announced will heavily impact Manchester City fans attempting to get to their Premier League match against Chelsea next month.

As part of an ongoing series of strikes, train drivers from the RMT union were already poised to walk out between January 3-4 and 6-7, making the journey to Stamford Bridge on January 5 a complicated one.

With that Chelsea game kicking off at 8pm, getting back to Manchester was set to be a tough ask. However, now the Aslef union has also announced a strike for their train drivers on that same date - so travel to and from London for the showdown now looks unlikely for City supporters.

City have already sold out their allocation for the Stamford Bridge meeting.

Greenwood signs new City contract

Alex Greenwood has signed a new three-year contract extension with Manchester City.

Greenwood, 29, extends her stay at the Academy Stadium until the summer of 2026 having first arrived at the club in 2020 from French heavyweights Olympique Lyonnais. She has since become one of the team's leading defenders and has started every Women's Super League (WSL) game this season.

She has helped Gareth Taylor's side put together an ongoing 10-match unbeaten run in all competitions.
