Man City drop team news hint ahead of Sevilla Champions League fixture

Manchester City supporters have been given a hint about how Pep Guardiola will set his team up against Sevilla on Wednesday night.

City will take on Sevilla in their final Champions League match of the campaign, although the contest will be something of a dead-rubber. City secured top spot in the group last week with a goalless draw against Borussia Dortmund while Sevilla secured third place with a 3-0 defeat of FC Copenhagen.

The fact that there is nothing riding on the match means that Guardiola can afford to rest a few players and give minutes to others, but that makes it even trickier for fans to predict who is going to be named in the starting XI.

On Tuesday Guardiola confirmed that Erling Haaland will play no part in the match, while Kyle Walker and Kalvin Phillips remain sidelined. Ederson will likely drop out for Stefan Ortega, and it would be no surprise to see Kevin de Bruyne and Joao Cancelo get a rest.

The prospect of City fans catching a glimpse of a few City youngsters was boosted on Tuesday when EDS stars Carlos Borges, Dire Mebude and Jadel Katongo trained with the first-team squad, along with Rico Lewis and Josh Wilson-Esbrand who have done so on a number of occasions this season.

On Wednesday afternoon another hint was given when Mebude and Katongo - both 18 - were absent from the EDS squad for their UEFA Youth League tie with Sevilla at the Academy Stadium. That suggests both could be called upon by Guardiola.

While Borges was named on the bench for the EDS match, overnight he was added to City's official UEFA squad, suggesting he could feature for both the EDS and first-team in the same day, just as Cole Palmer did last season.

Borges, an 18-year-old Portuguese winger who has been at City since 2015, has scored 12 goals and provided nine assists in 16 appearances for the EDS this season, and has scored hat-tricks in both the UEFA Youth League and EFL Trophy.
