Man City captains assemble to celebrate historic year of success

Fernandinho posed with four other Manchester City captains to celebrate an incredible year of success across the club.

Pep Guardiola's side held off a valiant effort from Liverpool to retain their Premier League title, winning a fourth in five seasons to reinforce their status as the dominant force in English football. And for a second season in a row, the club won their respective leagues at Under-23 and Under-18 level as well.

Brian Barry Murphy took charge of the Under-23s this season and fought through a difficult first half of the season to win the Premier League 2 by six points. And the Under-18s coached by Ben Wilkinson followed up victory in the northern section by beating Southampton 2-1 in the national final to win their league for a second successive year.

If that double treble wasn't impressive enough, the club also enjoyed success among younger age groups. City won the Under-17 Premier League Cup by spanking Tottenham 6-0 in the final last month, and their Under-16s beat United 3-1 in the final of the Under-16 Premier League Cup.

The captains from all four winning teams joined Fernandinho on the pitch after the first team had seen off Aston Villa to show the success across the club this year; Lakyle Samuel for the Under-16s, Nico O'Reilly for the Under-17s, Rico Lewis for the Under-18s and Shea Charles for the Under-23s. On his final day of work for the club, it was fitting that Fernandinho - a man who has done so much to link the academy and first team during his time in Manchester - was able to see the success being produced by the next generation.
