Man City boss Pep Guardiola told he could have a new 'leader' within his squad

Manchester City loanee Taylor Harwood-Bellis has been praised for his leadership qualities by England Under-21s manager Lee Carsley.

The 20-year-old is currently enjoying a loan spell at City legend Vincent Kompany's Burnley side in the Championship. So far the Englishman has started and played all of the Clarets' league matches this season.

Harwood-Bellis' successful development has seen him become captain of England's U21s and he wore the armband on Tuesday night as the Young Lions beat Germany 3-1 at Bramall Lane. Former City man Felix Nmecha headed the German's ahead but goals from Folarin Balogun, Conor Gallagher and Blues star Cole Palmer ensured victory for the hosts.

Germany showed a threat in attack but Harwood-Bellis' strong performance kept them at bay. Post-match Carsley declared how pleased he is with the City youngster.

"I thought Taylor was good tonight," the former Birmingham City man explained. "He was good in Italy as well.

"Like a lot of these young players, he has grown into being a leader. He’s getting better at that, he’s a great example in training.

"He’s a different kind of leader, in terms of he’s not a ranter and raver. When you think about, especially in the first half, some of the positions he took up and some of the balls he played, he’s very good in possession and we are very lucky to have him."

England's victory last night has provided the perfect preparation for the Young Lions ahead of the European Championships in 2023. Harwood-Bellis will be back in action for his loan club on Saturday when they travel to Cardiff City.
