Man City and Man United talents in demand, Sheffield United stand firm - Championship rumours

Bristol City’s transfer window so far has been about subtraction with the hope it can lead to additions over the course of the month.

Ryley Towler has joined Portsmouth, Dan Bentley is a target for Stoke City, while Antoine Semenyo and Alex Scott continue to attract considerable interest although the former’s departure looks far more likely than the latter’s.

Nigel Pearson has maintained that he can only reinforce his squad once players can be sold/moved off the wage bill and fans getting anxious over an apparent lack of activity will just have to accept the fact that any incomings will likely be later in the window.

Here is the latest transfer news and gossip from around the Championship…

Burns night

Bristol City are among three Championship clubs who have declared an interest in loaning Manchester City defender Finley Burns, report Football Insider.

The Robins, Watford and Coventry City have all reportedly informed the Premier League giants of their willingness to sign the 19-year-old until the end of the 2022/23 campaign with City expected to loan him out.

Burns spent the second half of last season with Swansea but made only three appearances under Russell Martin. He has made just one senior appearance for Manchester City, in the League Cup.

Hornets need a winger

Watford want to sign Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri until the end of the season, report the Telegraph.

Uruguayan international Pellistri made his Manchester United debut on Wednesday against Charlton Athletic in the League Cup having first signed for the club in 2020 but the 21-year-old’s first-team opportunities this season appear remote.

Watford boss Slaven Bilic is without 15 players at present, including forward Joao Pedro, and wants to reinforce his attacking department for what he hopes will be a run at automatic promotion over the second half of the season.

Baggie and Boro battle

West Brom and Middlesbrough are in a battle to sign Leyton Orient teenager Daniel Nkrumah, according to The Sun’s Alan Nixon.

Nkrumah is on loan at Welling United until the end of the season, having scored once and delivered two assists in five appearances, and is yet to play for Orient in League Two but the Baggies and Boro have made an enquiry over his availability at Brisbane Road.

The 19-year-old is under contract until the summer having signed professional terms with Orient in 2021.

Delap recalled

Manchester City are ready to recall Liam Delap from his loan spell at Stoke City, ahead of schedule.

The England Under-20 international has made 22 appearances for the Potters, 14 as a starter, and the expectation was for him to remain at the Bet365 Stadium for the remainder of the season.

But the Telegraph report that the 19-year-old is returning to Manchester before he’s likely to be loaned out to another Championship side with a host of clubs interested. The decision has nothing to do with father Rory Delap’s departure from Stoke as coach.

Ndiaye staying put

Sheffield United have no intention of selling star forward Iliman Ndiaye amid increasing interest from a number of Premier League clubs.

The Express claim that unnamed top-flight clubs have enquired over the availability of the Senegal international who has nine goals and seven assists in 26 games for the Blades this term and whose deal expires in 2024.

The Sheffield Star report that the 22-year-old representatives have shown little inclination to push for a new deal at Bramall Lane but that manager Paul Heckingbottom will advise the board to fend off any offers for Ndiaye.
