City and Liverpool aim for improvement
Manchester City and Liverpool have taken steps to improve relations between the two clubs ahead of next week's Carabao Cup fixture, following a number of unsavoury incidents in recent meetings between the two sides.
Tensions appeared to boil over in October's Premier League meeting at Anfield, when Liverpool beat City by a single goal. City alleged that coins were thrown at Pep Guardiola, while Liverpool condemned the unacceptable chanting and graffiti in the away end mocking the Hillsborough disaster. City then claimed their team bus was damaged on the way out of Anfield, and in 2018, City's bus was attacked on the way into Anfield for a Champions League game.

The Blues were also unhappy with comments from Jurgen Klopp in the build-up to the October fixture about their spending on transfers, adding to the toxic atmosphere that has developed in recent years when the two sides meet.

Foden recalls 'scary' Leeds experience

Pep Guardiola's side clash with the Yorkshire outfit in the Premier League on December 28, with the Blues aiming to return to top-flight action with a victory. It will be City's second competitive game back after the break for the World Cup, coming after a Carabao Cup match against Liverpool.
It remains to be seen which World Cup stars will feature in the game against Jesse Marsch's men, but Foden - who was impressive for England in Qatar - has already spoken about the atmosphere at Elland Road.
