A man has been charged with the murder of a 76-year-old woman who was found dead at a home in Leicester.
Sindeep Singh, 47, of no fixed address, was arrested after Bhajan Kaur’s body was found inside a house in Bolsover Street, Spinney Hills, in North Evington.
Leicestershire police were called to the address just after 8pm on 13 May. Kaur had previously made contact with the police.
Police arrested Singh the following day on 14 May and, after detectives applied to magistrates for extra time to hold him in custody, he was charged with murder on 16 May.
No cause of death has been revealed, but police said a postmortem examination had been completed and that further tests were to be carried out. The force said the incident had caused “some alarm” in the community but reassured people that it was an isolated incident.
Leicestershire police have referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) after the incident because of their previous contact with Kaur. The IOPC referral was made “in line with procedure”, Leicestershire police said.
DCI Mark Sinski of the East Midlands special operations unit’s murder investigation team said: “This is an extremely difficult time for Mrs Kaur’s family, and specialist officers continue to support them.
“House-to-house inquiries and a trawl of CCTV continues in the area and if anyone has any footage or information which may assist, they are asked to get in touch.”
