Man charged with murder of brain-damaged woman assaulted in 2009

A prisoner serving a sentence for the attempted murder of a woman has been charged with murder following her death 13 years later.

Carolyn Kemp was aged 34 when she was assaulted by Trevor Baker on Walmer Close, Romford in November 2009.

As a result of the assault, she was left with permanent brain damage.

Baker, now 52, subsequently pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 16 years in jail.

Ms Kemp sadly died on September 27 of last year.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “A forensic post mortem conducted at Queens Hospital, Romford on two days later found a causal link between the brain trauma she sustained in the assault and her death.”

On Tuesday, Baker, currently of HMP Warren Hill, was accused of Ms Kemp’s killing.

He is due to appear in custody at Barkingside Magistrates’ on December 18.
