A 24-year-old man has been charged with murder over the death of a five-year-old boy in the Far North Queensland Indigenous community of Yarrabah.
Police said the boy was taken to Yarrabah Hospital with life-threatening injuries on August 16.
He was flown to Townsville University Hospital in a critical condition but died yesterday.
Cairns detectives and Child Trauma Unit detectives from Brisbane launched an investigation into the death.
Today they charged a man with one count each of murder, grievous bodily harm and torture.
He is also facing two counts each of assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed and assault occasioning bodily harm.
Detectives said the man and the boy had been known to one another.
The man was remanded in custody and is due to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court tomorrow.
