A man who allegedly stabbed his 28-year-old partner to death in a Queensland home has been charged with murder after a police chase that involved a helicopter and tyre spikes.
The body of the woman was found at a home in Flinders Drive at Leichhardt, Ipswich after police responded to a welfare check at 9.15am on Monday.
A 36-year-old Leichhardt man has been charged with murder (domestic violence offence) and dangerous operation of a vehicle.
Police said the woman’s de facto partner fled the home before officers arrived. He was tracked in his car by a police helicopter before being stopped with tyre deflation devices.
Det Acting Supt Garry Watts said the woman suffered “multiple stab wounds” and officers faced a “very traumatic” scene.
“The victim suffered a number of stab wounds,” Watts told reporters.
In a statement police said the vehicle had been towed for forensic examination. Police were searching Wyaralong Dam for a knife they believe was used in the attack.
Watts said the man surrendered to police and was arrested where his car had come to a stop.
Watts said police had attended the address in the past week but there were no domestic or family violence orders between the pair.
The man was expected to appear before Ipswich magistrates court on 16 July.
