A man who allegedly stabbed another man to death in central Adelaide has been charged with murder.
Police say they responded to reports a 23-year-old man had been stabbed at an accommodation complex on Hindley St in the Adelaide CBD just before 8pm on Friday.
The victim, later identified as Lewis Parkin, was found with life-threatening injuries and rushed to hospital.
He died shortly after.
The 42-year-old suspect, from St Marys, had fled by the time police arrived but was arrested shortly after near the River Torrens.
He was charged with murder and refused bail.
Police say the incident was not random and they believe the two men knew each other.
According to local media reports, an altercation occurred between a group of people leading up to the incident.
Officers were dispatched to Wakanda Place Multicultural Bar near the western end of the city's Hindley St. However, it's understood the alleged stabbing happened on the street, not in any venue.
A witness told the Adelaide Advertiser he saw police armed with rifles patrolling outside from a nearby venue and that patrons at places along the strip were shut inside for about 30 minutes.
The witness told the paper he also saw "emergency crews trying to resuscitate a guy" amid shouting on the street but the victim did not appear to be responding.
The 42-year-old accused man is due to appear before the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.
