A man has been charged with damaging more than 90 cars in Adelaide's CBD.
Police say a 39-year-old Novar Gardens man slashed tyres of the cars on streets near the Adelaide Central Market yesterday, including on Wright, Gouger, Waymouth and Morphett streets, as well as in car parks.
The man was charged with multiple counts of property damage about 9pm last night and refused bail to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today.
Police had initially said about 60 cars were damaged but more motorists found their tyres deflated yesterday morning as they returned to their vehicles.
Mark Santos was ready to drive home to Port Lincoln when he saw the damage.
"It's very frustrating in a way because it holds me back with my time — it's very unnecessary," he said.
The city's tyre companies had barely opened when the calls for help came.
"They just started rolling in, the customers, one after one — damaged sidewall tyres — they'd all been punctured with something sharp like a knife or something, screwdriver, something like that," tyre fitter Nik Nikandru said.
Police believe more vehicles may yet be discovered with damaged tyres.
Senior Constable Rebecca Stokes urged anyone who may have been parked near the targeted streets to check their vehicle.
"A wide range of streets in the CBD — particularly that south-western corner, including Wright Street, Gouger Street, Mill Street, Coglin Street, Pitt Street and its car park," she said.
"Further damaged cars were found on Waymouth Street, Young Street, Eliza Street, Morphett Street and its car park."
