Ronald Harvey Bale remanded in custody following attempted murder in Mount Isa

A 66-year-old man charged with attempted murder, arson, and assault in an attack on another man in Mount Isa about midday yesterday has been remanded in custody.

Mount Isa man Ronald Harvey Bale allegedly attacked a man in broad daylight on Dempsey Street in the north-west Queensland city.

Police claim Bale used an iron bar to strike the victim, then at about 1:30pm Bale returned to the scene in his vehicle and allegedly drove his car onto the nature strip at the same man, who was forced to jump out of the way.

The man fell onto the bonnet and Bale drove into a fence.

Police claim Bale then set fire to the other man's truck which was parked in a neighbouring yard.

He has been charged with one count each of attempted murder, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of motor vehicle causing grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed, arson, and serious obstruct.

Bale appeared in Mount Isa Magistrates Court this morning, where he was remanded in custody. 

He is set to reappear on July 5.

A 54-year-old Mornington man was transported to Mount Isa Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening leg and arm injuries.

The cab of the victim's truck was destroyed by the fire, police said.

The men are known to each other.
