A 40-year-old man has been remanded in custody after being charged with murder over a fatal shooting at a strip of shops in Melbourne's north.
Abdurhman Jemal, 33, from Broadmeadows was found hurt and lying next to a car on Justin Ave at Glenroy about 4.30am on March 29. He died at the scene.
At the time, Victoria Police alleged the attack was "very targeted", and said the victim was known to officers and had a criminal record.
Homicide squad detectives on Friday charged Luke Picking from Newport in Melbourne's southwest with murder over the fatal shooting.
They also charged Picking with using a firearm as a prohibited person.
His case came before Melbourne Magistrates Court on Saturday where he was remanded in custody after refusing to come into the courtroom.
He will return to court on July 15.
Picking was withdrawing from drugs and alcohol, used anti-depressants and had a back injury sustained during his arrest, his lawyer said.
Prosecutors will ask for longer than usual to get their evidence together in the case.
