A man has been charged with attempted murder after a man was repeatedly stabbed on Sydney's lower north shore.

Police say a 28-year-old man was attacked about 10.30pm on Thursday as he walked along the Pacific Highway at Artarmon.

He was stabbed in the face, chest and abdomen and sought help at a nearby house before being taken to Royal North Shore Hospital where he underwent surgery and remains in a serious but stable condition.

Police raided a home on the Pacific Highway at Greenwich on Sunday afternoon and arrested a man, 27, who was charged with attempted murder at Chatswood Police Station.

A number of items seized from the home have been taken for forensic examination.

The man was refused bail to appear in Hornsby Local Court on Monday.
