A man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a man in the neck, back and shoulder in north Queensland.

The 27-year-old allegedly stabbed the other man, 22, a number of times at a home on Nelson St, South Townsville, about 1.30pm on Tuesday.

Police arrived at the scene and arrested the older man, while the alleged victim was rushed to hospital.

The younger man suffered a cut to the neck and puncture wounds in his back and shoulder and remains in a serious but stable condition in Townsville Hospital.

The accused man has been charged with attempted murder and is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning.
