A Perth man has been charged over bomb threats directed towards two embassies in Canberra and separate threats against a business in Adelaide.
Australian Federal Police allege the 57-year-old made calls from a public phone in Perth’s southern suburbs this week.
After identifying the location of the calls, officers monitored the phone on Thursday.
During that operation, they were notified of a menacing call made to an SA business around the same time as the man allegedly spend almost 30 minutes at the public booth.
He was tracked to his Wellard home where he was arrested and charged with one count of using a carriage service for a hoax threat, and two counts of threatening to commit damage by means of explosives to an official premises of an international protected person.
The man was expected to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on Friday.
AFP Acting Inspector Peter Gelme said no one should be harassed or threatened at work.
“These types of calls also waste valuable resources to investigate the veracity of the threats made,” he said.
The AFP said it would continue to work with SA police to investigate more than 30 other threatening calls made recently to SA businesses.
