A man accused of pushing a teenage girl waiting at an Adelaide bus stop into a garden bed and indecently assaulting her has been charged with assault with intent to rape.
Police said the incident happened at Gilberton in Adelaide's eastern suburbs just after 4pm on Wednesday.
The girl was sitting at Stop 7 on Walkerville Terrace, near the Buckingham Arms Hotel, when she was approached by an unknown man, police said.
When the girl walked away, the suspect — a 52-year-old from nearby Medindie — allegedly followed her, pushed her into a garden bed and assaulted her.
She managed to fight the man off and run away, police said.
"The victim was not physically injured as a result of the incident," police said in a statement.
"The suspect was last seen heading towards the car park area of the Buckingham Arms Hotel."
Police searched the area and Criminal Investigation Branch officers arrested the Medindie man.
He was charged with assault with intent to rape.
The man was refused police bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today.
Police have asked for assistance from anyone who was in the area of the incident between 4:10pm and 4:20pm yesterday.
They have asked anyone who witnessed the incident or may have dash cam footage to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
