A man accused of murdering his partner in a Sydney apartment has been refused bail as investigators work to determine the woman's cause of death.
Police were called to a unit in Chiswick in Sydney's inner west following reports of a domestic incident about 9.50pm on Saturday.
Officers arrived to find the body of a woman inside the property, NSW Police said in a statement on Monday.
The woman, believed to be in her 40s, has not been formally identified.
Diogo De Oliveira was arrested at the scene and taken to Burwood Police Station where he was charged with domestic violence murder.
The 40-year-old appeared before Burwood Local Court on Monday where he was refused bail.
He will appear in the same court on January 24.
A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of the woman's death.
Premier Chris Minns said the incident was one of 30,000 reported instances of domestic violence every year in NSW and there were more than 6500 incidents of sexual assault.
"Those numbers are increasing, not decreasing. So we all need to do more," he told reporters in Sydney.
