Man charged in connection with murder of fortune teller Stefan Nivelles Posschier in Westmeath

A man charged in connection to the murder of Stefan Nivelles Posschier is due to appear before Mullingar District Court at 10.30am on Thursday.

Mr Posschier was found dead at his home at Rattin between Kinegad and Milltownpass, in Co Westmeath, on October 25.

The 65-year-old originally from Belgium, who was known by the stage name Stefan de Guylian, had lived in Westmeath for over 20 years and worked as a fortune teller.

Mr Posschier died following a violent assault that shocked the local community.

A garda spokesperson said: “A male will appear before Mullingar District Court at 10:30am today, Thursday 10th November to be charged in connection with the murder of Stefan Nivelles Posschier, 25th October 2022.”

It is believed that Mr Posschier was stabbed by a man known to him.

He was laid to rest last month following a funeral mass at St Brigid’s Church, Clonegal, Co Carlow and was buried in The New Cemetery.

A funeral notice read: “Beloved son of Ann and the late Jacques, brother of Pierre, Jacqueline, Jeanette, Kathryn, Mariette, John, Dympna, James and the late Louise and also his son, Jacques.

“Stefan will be sadly missed by his mother, brothers, sisters, sons, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours, and friends.”
