A man is accused of being under the influence and speeding in a stolen car that crashed and killed a woman on Easter Sunday.
Queensland Police say a stolen white Ford Escape struck a Mitsubishi Mirage after going onto the other side of the road in Hervey Bay, north of Brisbane, at 10,15pm.
The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 39-year-old Sunshine Acres woman, died at the scene.
"It really is a tragic set of circumstances," Detective Inspector Wade Lee said on Monday.
"The deceased in this instance was a nurse, a mother, a wife, and the incident has devastated that family and the broader parts of our community."
Police believe the Ford was stolen from outside a charity organisation in Pialba between March 28 and 31.
Police have charged a 25-year-old Moreton Bay man with a string of offences, including dangerous driving causing death while driving under the influence of an intoxicating substance and speeding.
The man has also been charged with stealing, possessing dangerous drugs and two counts each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and driving unlicensed.
He remains in hospital with minor injuries and has been remanded in custody to face Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
