A man caught with a single bag of cocaine during a police operation in Nottingham city centre said: "I'm ashamed of myself." Appearing before Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Friday (September 30), Steven Thorpe made the comment as he represented himself on a single charge of possessing cocaine.
The 37-year-old, of Deansgate, Pleasley, was stopped on Angel Row as part of anti-violence Operation Guardian, involving police dogs and police officers in plain clothes. Thorpe was seen walking away from them before he was detained on July 30.
He stated he got the cocaine earlier from a man in some toilets. District Judge Leo Pyle fined him £535 after he pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine. He was also ordered to pay a £214 victim surcharge and prosecution costs of £85.
