Man carrying box hunted after Buchanan Bus Station 'suspicious package' chaos

Police probing the 'suspicious package' chaos at Buchanan Bus Station are hunting a man who was carrying a box and walking with a dog at the time of the incident.

Glasgow Live previously reported that officers were called to the city centre station at around 12.15pm on Wednesday.

The alarm was raised after reports came in regarding a suspicious package in the area.

Police put the station on lockdown; evacuating all those inside and placing a cordon around the area.

Specialist officers were called to assess the package which was later deemed not to be an explosive and that there was no risk to the public.

The investigation into the incident, which caused 'extreme disruption', rages on as police want to speak to a man spotted in the area.

He was wearing dark clothing, a cream cap and had a black and white dog with him.

The man was also carrying a cardboard box.

Anyone who spotted the aforementioned man, as well as those who were stood close to Stance 22 at the time, are urged to come forward.

Detective Constable John Fagan said: “The incident caused extreme disruption in the local area and we are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“We are appealing for anyone who was at Buchanan Bus Station around the time of the incident who witnessed a male carrying a cardboard box to come forward. In particular, we are looking to identify anyone who was near to Stance 22.

“The male was wearing dark clothing, a cream coloured cap and had a black and white dog with him.

"Anyone with information is urged to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1299 of June 8."
