Man 'brought out in handcuffs' as armed police descend on street

Armed police swooped on a residential street to assist in making three arrests following reports of a brawl.

Firearms units joined neighbourhood officers and dog handlers called to Thirlmere Way in Ditton at 5.43pm on Wednesday. Cheshire Police said a male was found with minor injuries at the scene.

Two boys and a man, aged 15, 16 and 20, have been arrested and remain in custody. A member of the public who contacted the ECHO said blue lights filled the street as initially one police car with its siren sounding pulled into the street, then three more, with an ambulance on standby.

They said officers brought a man out with no top on and hands cuffed behind his back and placed him against a police car, adding that armed police in “full tactical gear” and carrying Heckler and Koch guns entered the house, with a dog handler waiting nearby.

Inspector Rob McLoughlin, of Widnes Local Policing Unit, told the ECHO: “At around 5.43pm on Wednesday, July 20, Cheshire Police received reports of a disturbance involving a group of males on Thirlmere Way in Widnes.

“A number of officers, including armed response, a dog patrol and a police helicopter deployed to the incident. Upon arrival, a male aged 20 was noted to have minor injuries.

“Three males aged 15, 16 and 20 all local to the Widnes area have since been arrested in connection to the incident and remain in police custody. Detectives are progressing the investigation.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident, or has relevant information to provide, is encouraged to contact Cheshire Police via 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously quoting Cheshire Police reference number IML1322242.”
