Man branded 'needy' as he begrudges wife's alone time on three-week holiday

When you go on holiday with your partner, it's natural to want to spend most of your time with them - whether that involves relaxing by the hotel pool or exploring a new location together.

But one man has been left fuming after his wife told him she wants to spend some time away from him on their upcoming holiday, as he wants to spend the entire time "creating new core memories" with her.

The man explained he and his wife are planning a three-week holiday which will mark their final one before they settle down and try to start a family together, so he wants it to be one they'll remember for a long time.

While his wife is perfectly happy to do activities as a couple for the most part, she also wants to spend one afternoon getting a facial skincare treatment, and another getting her nails done.

In total, the woman wants to spend just six hours by herself - but her husband is demanding she only do one of her treatments, as he thinks she'll be spending too much time away from him otherwise.

In a post on Reddit, the man said: "My wife and I have a three-week international vacation planned together, that was supposed to be our last trip together before we try to start a family together and have kids. We've always talked about how important it is to us to go and travel together before we have the big responsibilities of parenting.

"My wife wanted to get a facial skincare treatment on this trip that will take roughly two-and-a-half hours. I was hoping we would spend the entire trip together doing activities together and would rather spend the time creating new core memories as part of our last hurrah before children, but I compromised and agreed to her self-care time. I agreed to find my own solo activity while I wait for her, so I am going to get a massage before we meet back up for dinner.

"Now we've been in an argument because she said that she now wants to also get her nails done, which will be another three-hour treatment, which means I would need to find another thing to do solo while I wait for her for another three hours (on a different day)."

The man branded his wife "selfish" for not wanting to spend more time with him, and has said he wants her to pick one of the treatments to do - but not both.

He added: "I'm upset and feel hurt that she would rather get her nails done than spend that time doing an activity together. I feel that she is being selfish for wanting to do not one but two activities that would then force me to figure out what to do on my own in a country that doesn't speak English.

"I feel that agreeing to find something to do while she gets her skincare treatment done should be enough of a compromise, but she is insisting that she strongly that she wants to get the nail treatment.

"We are stuck in an argument about me being upset because I want to spend the time doing something with her, and she's upset because she wants the alone time doing self-care treatments. I'm sad and upset that I feel like she would rather spend time alone than create new memories together. She's unwilling to budge and insists she does both treatments or she'll resent me. I feel like I will resent her for not spending that time together."

Commenters on the post were firmly on the wife's side though, as they pointed out that she only wants a total of six hours to herself in a three-week holiday.

One person said: "Needy, much?"

As another wrote: "You sound exhausting. You can't handle being in your own company for a few hours while your wife gets her hair and nails done. You want to be glued at the hip. That sounds so draining and suffocating. It's healthy for couples to spend some time apart, three weeks doing everything together would be too much."
