Man bailed as investigations continue into stabbing of 15-year-old boy in street

A man has been bailed as investigations continue into a 'vicious' stabbing of a teenage boy in the street. Police were called to Darnley Street in Old Trafford in the early hours of Sunday following reports of the 15-year-old being stabbed and robbed.

The teenager was rushed to hospital from the scene for treatment for serious injuries. One 20-year-old man was arrested in Chorlton on suspicion of robbery on Sunday but has since been bailed as investigations continue.

The M.E.N reported how the eyewitnesses heard the teenage boy cry out that he'd been stabbed and knocked on doors trying to get help following the 'vicious' street attack.

Investigations into the attack remain ongoing, with police introducing stop and search powers in the area in response on Sunday evening. On Monday evening, those powers were then extended until 4am on Tuesday in response to the stabbing.

Detective Sergeant John Seaton, from Trafford CID, said on Sunday: “This is a vicious attack on a young man in the early hours of this morning and following extensive work in a short time period we are now in a position to appeal to the public to ask if they saw anything suspicious around the Old Trafford area at the time of the incident, or indeed if they saw what happened.

"We are exploring all lines of enquiry and have already made an arrest in connection with this incident. We have increased our patrols in the area to offer visible reassurance and also encourage anyone to speak to our officers in person as they are there to help you if you have any concerns.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 0161 856 7863, quoting incident number 470 of November 27, 2022. Alternatively, details can be passed on via the LiveChat function at gmp.police.uk or 101.
