Man attacked with machete as masked raiders storm home

A man was attacked with a machete after three masked raiders stormed into a house. Police said an Xbox games console and a distinctive Surron LBX motorbike were taken in the raid in Leigh, near Wigan.

Greater Manchester Police detectives have issued an urgent appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. Two people were inside the house on Hand Lane at the time, police added.

One, a man, was struck on the back with what police believe was a machete, but the force said he escaped without injury. All three men then fled. Police have issued a photograph of the distinctive bike stolen.

In a Facebook post GMP Wigan West said: "Police are appealing for witnesses after an aggravated burglary in Leigh. At around 9.47pm on Monday 16 May, three unknown males entered a property on Hand Lane, Leigh.

"They then proceeded to steal a number of items including an Xbox games console and a distinctive Surron LBX motorbike. Two occupants of the property were home at the time of the incident and one of the offenders struck one of the occupants on his back with what is believed to have been a machete. Thankfully the victim was left uninjured."
